On July 17th I will be taking on the exciting challenge of swimming 1.5 miles across the San Francisco Bay to the East Beach at Crissy Field and running 7 miles up and over the Golden Gate Bridge. This adventure is called the “Alcatraz Challenge” www.tricalifornia.com.
While I am excited about the personal challenge of this event, I am also participating in the “Alcatraz Challenge” to raise vital funds for Atlanta Day Shelter for Women & Children www.atlantadayshelter.org.
The Day Shelter is an invaluable resource center and safe refuge for homeless women and children in the Metro Atlanta area. I have been volunteering with the shelter for over two years educating the women and children on basic health and wellness practices as well as providing trigger point massage and adjustments.
The center provides several programs designed to help the women and children get back on their feet and support a self-sustaining lifestyle. Programs range from “Critical Needs” providing clothes and bath facilities and toiletries to “Medical Care” (where I fit in), “Job Readiness” with computer training, “Bible Studies”, “Housing and Social Services” and “Children Services” which include a safe environment, nutrition classes, story time and basic hygiene instruction.
I have a fundraising goal of $3,000 dollars which I hope to surpass.
Your donation will bring me closer to my goal and help countless homeless women and children get a little closer to having the tools to survive.
